Job Description
Propulsion Controls Engineerings (PCE) purpose is to provide the highest quality services to meet the needs of our customers while ensuring a safety and beneficial workplace for our employees. PCE has a current opening for a Full:Time Safety and Health (SH) Technician I, at our San Diego California location.
Job Summary:
Responsible for operating environmental programs. Serves as a resource for facility and subcontractor personnel working in a variety of industrial fields associated with ship repair. The areas include: on board sea going vessels and ships; industrial shops; dry docks, etc., ensuring compliance with established Federal OSHA, State OSHA, NAVSEA Standard Items, and Maritime regulations and/or requirements.
Essential Functions:
:Conducts operations in accordance with Federal and State requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable environmental requirements for state, federal and applicable standards.
:Performs daily ESH inspections in all shops, vessels and operating areas in which repairs are being conducted.
:Responsible for enforcement of ESH shop procedures.
:Ensures ESH processes are in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
:Distributes weekly Gang box trainings, ensuring employees are educated on hazards associated with their job duties.
:Assists ESH department in data entry and recordkeeping requirements.
:Conducts monthly facility fire extinguisher inspections.
:Continuously interacts and effectively communicates with customers, company employees, subcontractors, vendors and visitors to the facility.
:Investigates hazardous spills, searching for clues, studying variables, questioning witnesses, and retracing sequences to uncover the sources of reported spills.
:Ensures that hazardous waste is properly identified, stored and disposed of in accordance with Federal and State requirements.
:Executes PCEs hazardous waste spill prevention program to ensure compliance with Federal and State requirements.
Experience and Knowledge:
:Minimum 1 year of previous work in the field of safety and environmental related experience preferred. Management may determine an applicant qualified/may qualify for the position if the applicant has the necessary knowledge and/or certifications to meet the requirements.
:Must possess knowledge of OSHA Regulations 29 CFR 1910, 1915 and NAVSEA Standard Items.
:Knowledge of proper investigation and reporting of environmental incidents and recommending corrective action.
:Knowledge of ship repair specifications commensurate with ship:wide/multi:ship repair initiatives (preferred).
:Must be able to effectively communicate with ships personnel, contractors and subcontractors, vendors, customers and employees.
:Strong computer skills and ability statistical and other analytic techniques.
:Maritime knowledge (preferred).
:Military experience (preferred).
:Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
General Information:
PCE is an at will company.
PCE is a Drug Free company. All potential employees are subject to a pre:employment physical and urinalysis testing.
Are subject to security background screening and must be able to obtain and maintain required/necessary security clearance(s).
Most positions require the potential employee to be a US resident. Proof required upon hire.
Overtime may be required in support of company objectives though it is NOT guaranteed.
Travel outside the local area (which may be on short notice) for extended periods of time may be required.
